I woke up at 4 AM this morning in order to go to a radio club meet-up near Milwaukee (pictures below), in New Berlin, WI. When I woke up this morning, I was half hoping that the event would be canceled because I was so tired, but it wasn’t so I got dressed and ready. Jim picked me up at 4:45 and off into the dense fog we went. I think it was about 6:30 AM by the time we made it to the meet-up.

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I ended up really enjoying it. Everybody at the meet was really friendly and welcoming. The meet didn’t officially start until 8 AM but there were already people set up by the time we got there.

One of the first things I did when I got there was buy a patch with the Radio Club’s logo on it. I did some work while I waited for more people to show up and around 9 AM I went walking around to the different seller’s tables to look at all of the items available. They had some really cool stuff available. Most of the stuff I’m unknowledgeable about, but I can tell when a radio looks cool! 😜

To be honest, I was expecting it to be a long and slow morning, but the time went surprisingly quick. The meet ends at 10 AM with an auction. People can donate unwanted items to the club and the club auctions them off to earn funds. There was this really cool Juliette transistor AM/FM radio that I liked, so I planned on trying to get it for a dollar. I waited a bit before I bid though, so the club president added in a few other items. I got all three items for only $1! The radio I wanted came in the original box, with the instruction manual and 4 original batteries.

A portable radio from the 1970s that comes with the original batteries is very rare. I think I was pretty fortunate for snatching up the deal. When I got back home, I tested and the radio worked, so I looked on eBay and there was one in worse condition without all the included items for sale for $35, so I decided to try posting mine for sale. $75 or the best offer. You can see the listing here.

After the meeting and auction were finished, I was able to attend the board meeting. It was about as interesting as you would expect. They went through the details from the previous meet, discussed the current meet, and opened the floor to questions/suggestions. It was interesting to see the process work out, but it seems like a lot of responsibility.

After everything was finished, Jim and I began the drive back home. When he has to be somewhere, he takes the highway. After he’s done at his destination, he enjoys taking the scenic route home, so we spent about 4 hours driving home along the backstreets. There were some interesting locations, where I took photos. One of them was a Jesuit home or retreat or something, I’m not 100% sure what it’s for, but it was very peaceful with beautiful nature. We also drove along the lake, so I have a lot of photos of the lake.

Anyway, I’ve included (below) a gallery of the photos I’ve taken. I’m tired, so I’m going to play some Pokemon Violet before bed, then I’m going to sleep like a baby! If you’re interested in learning more about this particular Radio Club, their website is here.

Take care.
